March Forward: Celebrating Women This International Women’s Day

Saturday 8 March is International Women’s Day. The theme for 2025 is March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls. This theme calls for action to unlock equal rights and opportunities for all and a future where no one is left behind. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation, particularly young women.

At Construction Sciences, we are proud to see a growing participation rate of young women in our CMT traineeship programs. These traineeships create career development opportunities that will help shape our employees’ future success within the company. We hope this growing participation will inspire more women to follow in their footsteps.

In honour of this year’s theme, we would like to highlight some of the amazing women within the company who are growing successful careers here at Construction Sciences.

I am a CMT Technician at the Kingston Soils lab and have been with the company 4 years.

I love the people I work with; my colleagues really help make this a fun and enjoyable place to work. I really like that I’m always learning new things, whether that’s a new test method, a new piece of machinery, or just how to work in a new environment.

I started my full-time traineeship with CS and have since achieved my Certificate IV in Laboratory techniques. I have benefited greatly from various training and development opportunities that have enhanced my skills and knowledge within the industry.

A piece of advice I would give to young women aspiring to enter this industry is don’t be afraid to branch out and try something new, especially if it is a male dominated industry. There are so many amazing opportunities to gain from this workplace, don’t hesitate to get dirty!

I have been with the company for 5.5 years. I started as a Trainee and worked my way up to Lab Manager at the NSW Central Aggregates Lab.

What I enjoy most about working here is the variety – everyday is different. I like to work with my team and my clients to achieve results.

CS provided me with in-house training and over my time I have achieved a Cert IV in Laboratory Techniques and a Diploma in Laboratory Technology.

A piece of advice I would give to young women aspiring to enter this industry is go for it! It is an excellent company to be a part of and I have always felt supported and part of the family here at Construction Sciences.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we acknowledge the contributions of the remarkable women in our industry. Their dedication, expertise, and leadership help drive our success, and we remain committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
