Project Description:
The New Fitzroy River Bridge Project is a key infrastructure upgrade in Western
Australia’s Kimberley Region, reconnecting communities after historic flooding
caused significant damage to the original bridge and surrounding roads.
The project involved constructing a new two-lane bridge over the Fitzroy River,
a provision of a pedestrian pathway as part of the new structure, construction
of flood and scour protection on the new bridge approaches, protection,
relocation and modification of utility services required for the construction of
the works and establishment and rehabilitation of material pits for the works.
The New Fitzroy River Bridge Project, completed six months ahead of
schedule has been widely recognised for its community impact, innovation,
and indigenous engagement. Awards include the 2024 Aboriginal Engagement
Award from the Civil Contractors Federation WA, Infrastructure Partnerships
Australia Industry Choice and Contractor Excellence Awards, and the Judges
Awards at the Civil Contractors Federation WA Earth Awards.
Our Role:
Construction Sciences established an on-site annex laboratory at the Fitzroy River construction area to conduct ongoing concrete and soil testing for the project.
