Project Description:
The New Brooking Channel Bridge project is a key infrastructure upgrade on the Great Northern Highway in Western Australia’s Kimberley Region, aimed at strengthening supply chain resilience and improving road safety. Replacing a 100-metre single-lane crossing with a modern two-lane, 127-metre bridge, the project includes 3.5-metre lanes, 1.2-metre shoulders, and a 1.8-metre pedestrian footpath.
Additional works involve the reconstruction of bridge approaches, flood and scour protection between the Brooking Channel and the Fitzroy River, and integration with the broader Kimberley Resilience Program.
The project contributed to employment and skills development opportunities for local workers. Over 160 local Aboriginal workers have been employed, with 42 completing formal certifications in construction, hospitality, or security operations. The New Brooking Channel Bridge provides a safer, more durable crossing for the region’s critical transport network.
Our Role:
Construction Sciences established an on-site annex laboratory near the construction site to conduct earthworks and concrete testing. These services ensured the quality and durability of materials used throughout the project.
